Golden Olympics Brings Joy, Movement, and Community to Older Adults in Wicker Park
On Friday, May 15, Home Care Powered by AUAF proudly celebrated Older Americans Month by hosting a special community event called Golden Olympics at the gymnasium of Our Lady of Unity Parish in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
Older Americans Month was established in 1963 by John F. Kennedy to recognize the contributions, wisdom, and lasting impact of older adults across the United States. Every May, organizations and communities come together to honor seniors and support their well-being, independence, and quality of life.
This year, nearly 100 older adults joined us for a morning full of laughter, movement, music, resources, and connection.
As guests arrived, they were welcomed with backpacks filled with practical summer items. Participants also had the opportunity to visit informational tables hosted by local leaders and community organizations, including State Representative Eva-Dina Delgado, Senator Omar Aquino, Equal Hope Foundation, and Milagros Spa, which shared information about wellness and foot care services.
Home Care Powered by AUAF also provided information about its home care services and promoted its free art classes for older adults, encouraging seniors to remain active, creative, and socially connected.

Before the activities began, attendees enjoyed refreshments including fresh fruit, yogurt, water, and snacks.
The highlight of the event was the Golden Olympics games — a series of sports adapted especially for older adults. Participants enjoyed noodle soccer, seated volleyball, a walking horse race, and bean bag toss games. The gym was filled with smiles, cheering, and moments of friendly competition as seniors encouraged one another throughout the morning.
Every participant received a medal in recognition of their participation in the 2026 Golden Olympics. For attendees who preferred quieter activities, art stations were also available during the event.
To end the celebration, participants took pictures at the photo booth, danced to music played by the DJ, and received pantry items generously donated by Goya.
At Home Care Powered by AUAF, we believe older adults deserve moments of joy, appreciation, and community. Their legacy, sacrifice, and contributions continue to strengthen our neighborhoods and inspire future generations.
